Changes will be made to Ohio County smoking ban
WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Board announced Tuesday there will be significant changes to the smoking ban in Ohio County.
Despite a public outcry last month in which several people spoke out against the changes, the board is moving forward, banning smoking in public outdoor areas and private decks and porches where food is served. This includes all outdoor festivals at Heritage Port, such as The Upper Ohio Valley Italian Fest, Blues Fest, and Mountaineer Brew Fest. They've also banned e-cigarettes.
The proposal, however, does not affect places like Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack and other gambling establishments.
The ban passed 4-2 with seven not attending the hearing.
The change will go into effect March 1, 2016.
