Budget hearings underway for Steubenville city council
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —
Budget talks are underway in Steubenville, and various departments are making their pitches.
Thursday night before the regular council meeting, the finance committee heard budget requests from the engineering department, municipal court and wastewater.
This being just one of several budget hearings so council as a whole can consider the requests and come up with a budget by the end of the year.
“They need to explain why they are asking for the increases and what benefits it brings for the city, but also to give them a projection of what may go wrong this year on issues that we have here,” said Steubenville City Manager Jim Mavromatis.
The city manager expects a focus on water and wastewater in the finalized budget, saying there are some needed upgrades in those departments. The budget hearings are on-going.
