The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman was injured after she hit the rear passenger side of a car while riding a bicycle on Tuesday morning in Newell.

Newell resident Jessica A. Gilbert, 34, was traveling westbound along Cordray Street and collided with a Ford Edge driven by a man from Texas. The sheriff's office believes Gilbert ran a stop sign before hitting the car.

The driver of the car rendered aid until first-responders -- the Newell and Chester volunteer fire departments -- arrived. Gilbert was transported to a landing zone, and then flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

"The accident remains under investigation, however, no charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the motor vehicle,” Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said in a statement.
