Wheeling Police made an arrest in connection with a shots fired incident that happened in the rear of 525 S. Huron Street on Wheeling Island on Tuesday.

Walter K. Morgan, 28, of Cleveland was arrested without incident. He is being charged with one count of attempted murder.

"We are grateful to the people on Wheeling Island who helped with tips, and we were able identify and track him down going to an East Wheeling business and we were able to initiate a traffic stop and arrest him,” said Philip Stahl, Wheeling Police Department public information officer.

Detectives believe that Morgan fired multiple shots in an alleyway shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with the intended target being another man who was taking out his trash.

After multiple interviews and reviewing nearby surveillance video, a warrant was issued for Morgan’s arrest earlier Friday afternoon.

Morgan is the Northern Regional Jail on $100,000 cash-only bond.
