Annual 'Bernie's Kids' brings toys to Brooke County
The Brooke County Sheriff's Office is continuing an annual tradition called Bernie’s Kids, a program that provides toys for less fortunate kids in Brooke County.
It's in honor of former Sheriff and Commissioner Bernie Kazienko who started the program back in the 80's. Roughly $6,000 were spent on approximately 170 kids for this upcoming Christmas.
"Just seeing the happy kids on Christmas, knowing that everybody's got something,” said Brooke County Dispatcher Tina Degarmo.
Brooke County Chief Dispatcher Christina White was happy to see the tradition going.
"It also would have made Bernie very happy to know that we continued the tradition that he started and he worked so hard for, and it really made a smile on his face every year to help all the kids in the county," White said.
The donations were made possible by local businesses and residents.
