One man is in custody after a shooting late Thursday night.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call just after 11 p.m. at a home along Route 213 about a shooting.

Officials say 43-year-old Brian Riggle had fired an AR-15 rifle at one woman, then struck another woman with the gun, while threatening to kill everyone.

"The husband had shot the wife; the wife was sitting on the bed. The husband was in there with a high powered rifle fired at her. Clipped her ear and it went down into her shoulder. From there he went into the bedroom, hit his mother-in-law with the butt of the gun in the shoulder and then pointed the gun at her and threatened to kill her and anybody else that comes out,” Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said. “He's gonna kill them all he said."

One of the women was taken to a Pittsburgh area hospital.

"When deputies got here, he came out of the house, he hesitated,” Abdalla said. “He stayed in the house for a while. He came out of the house with a bullet proof vest, with live rounds of ammo, carrying an AR-15 with him."

The sheriff's office was assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Toronto police.

Both victims are expected to recover.

Charges are pending. A first court appearance date has not yet been set.
