Officials: Sistersville mayor to resign

TYLER COUNTY, W.Va.

The mayor of Sistersville submitted his resignation letter to the city recorder amid questions regarding where he lives.

Mayor Dave Fox is expected to announce his resignation at tonight's 7 p.m. council meeting. Council will have to approve his resignation and vote on a new mayor or interim mayor.

In August, during a council meeting, a discussion started after Fox said he no longer lived in Sistersville city limits. Fox said he moved to Ohio County because his wife accepted a job near Wheeling.

At that time, City Recorder Julie Schleier said the city charter states the mayor must live in the city limits when seeking election. There is nothing that states where they should live after they take office; therefore, she said Fox's residency was legal.

Fox, who is serving his fourth two-year term, previously told NEWS9 that he would resign if the charter calls for him to do so. His term was set to end on March 30, 2014.
