TYLER COUNTY, W.Va. --

The case has been continued against a Tyler County man accused of chasing his family with an ax.

Howard Shriver is charged with attempted murder after an incident last year during which he allegedly chased his family out of a house with an ax at night.

On Thursday, Shriver's case was continued for the current term of court. Shrivers also hired a new attorney out of Parkersburg, Jay Gerber.

Tyler County Prosecutor Luke Ferbee said Shriver waived his right to a speedy trial and a status hearing is scheduled for October.

Shriver remains in jail facing 12 felony counts ranging from attempted murder to burglary and violation of a protective order.
