HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio -- When it rains, it pours. Crews tasked with getting area parks ready for the summer season have had enough of it.
At Tappan Lake, spring storms following a rough winter left a lot of clean-up work to do.
“Regardless of the weather, we have 63 reservations,” Tappan Lake Park Manager Jeremy Hoffer said. “We're busy right now trying to get the beach sand on the beach. The rain has been kind of slow. Weeding and mowing is not as good as we want it to be."
Still, they’re completely booked.
Touching up is ongoing after the lake flooded two weeks ago.
“We were still above what we call ‘summer pool,’ ” Hoffer said. “It’s our normal conservation pool in the summertime. We were up a little over 2 feet. We had to evacuate 23 campers."
On Tuesday, they were able to reopen the grounds.
One man visiting the lake with his granddaughter noticed the cleanup crews are working hard.
Hoffer said it's just a matter of cleaning up muddy spots and spreading the sand so boating, camping, fishing, and more will be ready by Friday.
If you’re looking for a nice easy get away close to home, it only costs $5 per car load. Hoffer just asks that everyone be safe. The activity schedule is posted at: www.mwcd.org
