BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio - The Columbus Fire Bomb Squad arrived on scene Tuesday afternoon after a woman possibly discovered a case of decaying dynamite in a barn located on Main Street in Armstrong Mills.
A woman was clearing out the barn when she found it and immediately contacted authorities.
"The fire department came down and opened up the barn and found what looked to be about a half case of old dynamite to the point where it started to crystalize," Belmont County EMA Director Dave Ivan said.
Ivan said the dynamite has been in the barn for years and that he does not believe any foul play is involved.
"It could turn out being nothing more than old road flares so were going to air on the side of caution, and if they are the need to suit up and go in to dispose of it, they will," Ivan said.
Officials evacuated all nearby residents ready and shut down area roads.
