Troublesome bridge in Irondale coming down

Updated: Tuesday, June 3 2014, 05:49 PM EDT

WTOV9.com
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- A bridge on County Road 53 in Irondale has had a lot of problems recently.
In April, county employees were working on the bridge when the back end of a dump truck fell through the bridge’s deck.
The driver checked out OK, but the bridge was in worse shape. Last month they took the truck out of bridge
On Tuesday, they began work on tearing it down and plan to build the bridge back up. It will be closed until they get it fixed, and that could take a while.
The bridge was already losing its guardrail and the stone that was being used for the retaining wall had slipped.
Jefferson County Engineer Jim Branagan was unavailable for any comment Tuesday, but he’s said that incident wasn't the first time the county had trouble with it.
