Roundabout appears to be done deal along Lovers Lane

Updated: Wednesday, June 18 2014, 08:13 AM EDT

Steubenville, OH --

It’s a road project years in the making – the Lovers Lane and the Fort Steuben Drive intersection.  On Tuesday night we got a better idea about what’s next.

City Engineer Mike Dolak says he has recommended a roundabout and all he needs now is for City Council to get on board.

“I’d like to have the support of council as well as the entire public to move forward,” said Dolak.

For Dolak the roundabout despite the challenges it may pose for unfamiliar drivers will be worth the trouble in the end. He believes it will slow down speeders and decrease congestion.

Dolak says he's spoken to the community and even though there is opposition he feels as though many residents are on board.

"We've been working on this project since about 2008,” Dolak says. “The public has been fairly receptive. They realize something needs to be done. The roadway was built in the 1930's and we are trying to move forward with my recommendation."

Dolak says the public process isn't over just yet. He will present the plan for the roundabout to residents at an open house on July 24th.
