BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- It’s the halfway point of ‘Orange Barrel Season,’ so we took a drive Thursday morning along Interstate 70, beginning westbound then worked east to see how the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11’s construction program is coming along.
There are two projects happening near the Guernsey County line, with a combined total of $8.6 million for bridge deck replacement and rehabilitation work. An ODOT Eastern Ohio spokeswoman says the project is 25 percent done. It's on schedule for an October completion date.
The other project, just east of State Route 800 and Hendrysburg, is still in its infant stages, as it’s set for a May 2016 completion date.
Next, is the I-70 bridge replacement at the State Route 9 interchange. It’s a $9.6 million deal that is 70 percent done and on track for a November wrap-up.
Continuing on 70 through the split, you hit a pavement and rehabilitation, resurfacing job, where 3 miles of I-70 is undergoing maintenance from Bridgeport west.
At 40 percent job completion, this $5.9 million affair is right on track, set for smooth sailing in October.
