Police ask for public's help after shots fired

Updated: Tuesday, June 17 2014, 05:45 PM EDT

WHEELING, W.Va.--

Wheeling police are investigating a report of shots fired in East Wheeling.

Officers said it happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday behind the American Legion bar on 15th Street and Jacob Street.

Deputy Chief Martin Kimball said witnesses said three black males were seen leaving the area. Shell casings were found in the street and officers are looking for surveillance video.

“We’re asking residents to come to police if they know anything so we can get these kind of weapons off the street and make it a little safer,” said Kimball.

One man was arrested, in the bar, on drug charges, but police said they believe it may be unrelated.
