STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- People are using the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County more than ever.
It has a lot to do with the advancement of technology, as more people are using online tools to access the public library and all it has to offer.
Librarians saw close to 200,000 checkouts in 2013 alone.
"We think some of this has to do with the online usage that we have,” said the library’s public relations coordinator Jennifer Cesta. “The eBooks are very popular."
EBook downloads jumped almost 30-percent last in the last two years.
"I think it's great that people are using the library,” Cesta said. “They use us by coming in on foot and our online our e-branch library seems to get a lot of usage too because you can go on there and order books and have them picked up at any location of one of our library branches that you'd like to."
While the library is seeing more people use online tools, more than 100 people from kids to seniors have signed up for a summer reading program.
“It's important to keep their minds active and keep them participating in events that are mind-related and keep them going in reading and practicing what they learn from the books in schools and keeping it here during the summer," Cesta said.
The summer reading program kicked off this week.
It wraps up July 18.
