HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. - School in back in session. With that comes an increase in traffic, particularly around the schools, and a need for increased awareness among motorists.
"We like to put a reminder out every year because school seems to be starting earlier and earlier and we just want people to know that school is back in session, there will be a lot of kids out, and to just exercise more caution on the road," Weirton Police Lt. Greg Moodie said.

Weirton police are urging drivers to slow down, especially during the mornings and evenings when kids are going to and from school, and to always pay attention to what the speed limit is in school zones.
"We're just advising motorists to be extra cautious because we wouldn't want to see this time of the year turn into a tragedy," Moodie said.
Always remember to pay attention to the red lights on the school bus to stop for students to cross the street. Motorists approaching either side must wait until the red lights stop flashing before going.
Plus, Weirton Elementary School just held its grand opening and Moodie says there will most likely be some difference in traffic around that school zone.
