JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – Significant news came out of a pair of cases inside the Jefferson County Courthouse on Wednesday – one a murder, the other the death of a 5-month-old baby.
Celicia Wilson was charged with two separate counts, one for endangering children, and the other for involuntary manslaughter by the grand jury. Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said those charges are the result of an investigation that began a little over a month ago after Wilson was found unconscious in a bathtub inside her Steubenville home with her 5-month-old son.
Investigators said an autopsy report confirmed the baby drowned.
“Some of the aggravating factors that we look at evidence so far show that the mother was extraordinarily intoxicated and took this baby, or was given the baby, while other members of the family went to pick up the other children from school," Hanlin said.
Wilson could serve up to 11 years in prison if she is convicted.
Another case that moved forward was the murder of Chad Taravella, one that Stephen Threats is accused of committing.
Investigators said threats shot and killed Taravella outside of a Wintersville apartment last month. Threats was charged with aggravated murder and tampering with evidence.
Both Wilson and Threats will be back inside the courthouse next Wednesday for their arraignments.
