Drivers unhappy after first day of Weirton traffic delays

WEIRTON, W.Va. – Thursday was the first day drivers were forced to detour off W.Va. 2 and U.S. 22 because of a 1-mile stretch of work along those roads.
Those traveling toward Weirton or Pittsburgh are forced to detour across the Veterans Bridge into Ohio, get off at Ohio 7, and then loop around back onto the bridge to head east. If you’re trying to go into Weirton, the detour isn’t over. The ramp going into downtown is closed. Drivers must take Harmon Creek exit and turn around.
Naturally, drivers aren’t fans of it.
"I have friends over there and we have to go all the way up the road now and come back through,” Steubenville resident Edward Wilson said. “It’s just a big pain."
"I don’t know how they’re going to do it,” fellow Steubenville resident Debby Thompsons said. “It’s not going to work. Steubenville will be backed up with traffic. Route 22 will be backed up and 7. It ain’t gonna work."
The roadwork is expected to last three weeks.
