BROOKSIDE, Ohio -- The 24-Hour Cold Water Challenge has captured the creative minds and generous hearts of hundreds of firefighters and survivors. It supports the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
And it’s taking off right here in the Ohio valley.
"Over this last week in Belmont County alone, there have probably been over 100 firefighters do this," said Allan Ketzell of the Brookside Fire Dept.
Here's how it works: If you get challenged, you have to donate $10 and get wet, usually by being sprayed by a hose, having a bucket of cold water dumped on you, or jumping in a poll. If you choose not to get wet, you pay $100 .
In the past week alone, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has received nearly 250 donations in amounts spanning from $10-$100 and more are coming in each day.
