BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- Nearly 1,000 vehicles passed through a checkpoint on Ohio 7 at Aetna Street on Friday night with officers saying the game has changed a bit, though the directive has not.
"Our message has remained constant: Don't drive if you're impaired," said Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. James Faunda of the St. Clairsville Post. "We're seeing more people impaired on prescription medication and narcotics more than alcohol these days."
Officers reported 987 vehicles went through the checkpoint. Of those, 810 vehicles were checked. There were two OVI arrests and four misdemeanor arrests
“We're not just focusing on people that are impaired,” Faunda said. “We're looking for other violations as well as we conduct these checkpoints."
