WLU hosts active shooting training for educators, police and EMA

Updated: Wednesday, July 30 2014, 05:47 PM EDT

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- Law enforcement, education leaders and emergency management personnel from the northern panhandle attended an active school-shooter instructor training course on Tuesday and Wednesday at West Liberty University.

Course leaders say the training could help to save lives in an emergency situation.

Training inALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) focuses on giving students and staff more options than the traditional lockdown -- a technique that historically has proven to be ineffective as it creates stationary targets for shooters -- was presented during the two-day course.
