WHEELING, W.Va.--

On Monday, the floor of the WesBanco Arena in Wheeling underwent a major transformation to become a major donation station for the Annual Ohio Valley Media Day Blood Donor Drive.
Organizers with the American Red Cross event hope to bring in 350 productive donations during the event.  Organizers said that prior to the 10 a.m. start time, there were 235 pre-registered donors.
The drive runs through 7 p.m. on Monday, and walk-ins are welcome.  As of 3:30 p.m. organizers said they had 52 double red donations and 94 whole blood donations.
For some walk-in's it was their first time ever donating, and others were there to donate and show their support for the good cause.
"While I was 22 weeks pregnant with my third child I was diagnosed with placenta accreta, which is an issue where your placenta grows through your uterus and attaches to an organ.  My [placenta] decided to attach to my bladder, so I was admitted to the hospital from then on at 32 weeks.  Then I hemorrhaged and needed five units of blood, so it's really important to me that people are out here donating blood, because one of them probably saved my life," Melissa Siedlecki said.
If you were not able to make it out to Monday's media day donor drive, you can still help by contacting redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
NEWS9 is a proud sponsor of the annual Ohio Valley Media Day Blood Donor Drive.
