Ohio County,. OHIO

Early Wednesday morning around 3 a.m., A trailer in Ohio County on Sample Road was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived. Fire officials say 59-year old Dennis Cork was asleep when the trailer caught on fire, but he managed to climb through the window in the nick of time despite being an amputee.

Cork suffered just cuts and bruises and was taken to the hospital. The assistant fire chief of Valley Grove, John Gearry, says the cold presents certain challenges.

"With the weather conditions it’s always hard. We had four fire companies come out one from Pennsylvania one from Marshall County and two from Ohio County, and for the weather conditions and what we had to work with, everything went pretty well," Gearry says.

It took crews about an hour to get the flames out, and they only experienced minor issues with equipment freezing. Officials believe the cause of the fire was heat related but this year it is something they are getting used to.

"We've had more fires this year than we normally have and in the last two months in our district we've had four house fires and we can relay all of them some way to heating and the weather conditions" says Gearry.

That this is not the first time Cork has lost everything in a fire.
Cork's trailer was actually bought with insurance money after his last one was destroyed. This time around cork has no insurance -- and his sister, who did not want to go on camera, is planning to hold a benefit to cover costs.

Cork is going to stay at his daughters house, who lives right next door. No details on the benefit are available at this time.
