MONROE COUNTY, Ohio --

The fate of Ormet could soon be clear, as a decision concerning a power rate reduction is set to happen next week.

The Public Utilities Commission has scheduled a hearing for Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m.

Ormet is asking the commission to grant Ormet a rate reduction from American Electric Power so it can continue operations in Hannibal, Ohio.

Ormet currently has only two potlines open at its Hannibal facility. Officials said without the rate reduction, a closure would be imminent.

The closure could mean hundreds of job losses.
