STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Not guilty by reason of insanity.
That surprise plea came from the attorney for Celicia Wilson, who was arraigned in connection to her baby's bathtub death Thursday in a Jefferson County courthouse. Wilson entered two pleas -- not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity -- to felony charges of endangering children and involuntary manslaughter.
It’s a case that stems from an incident where Wilson’s 5-month-old son was found unconscious in a bathtub. Wilson was drinking the day of the incident and an autopsy later confirming her baby drowned.
With Thursday’s developments, Wilson will be evaluated by psychological experts in Ohio to determine whether she's competent and sane to stand trial.
“So that will have the immediate effect of making those proceedings take long because we will have to have those evaluations done and the results to give to both sides (to review),” said Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin.
Wilson will return to jail on $125,000 bond. As for a trial date, that will come down the road as soon as those evaluation results a reviewed.
