Local organization works to improve city with garden

Updated: Sunday, June 1 2014, 06:30 PM EDT

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. –

Two brothers are working to demonstrate a green lifestyle in the area with their nonprofit organization, Magic Tree Inc.

Patrick and Adam Vulgamore grew up in New Cumberland and after moving away, they have always wanted to pursue their dream in making their hometown a better place. They got a step closer to their vision with a special garden demonstration on Sunday, located at the intersection of Jackson and Chestnut streets.

“So I had the idea with my brother to start a nonprofit organization to better the community, to get everybody together and our first project is a community garden, more of a demonstration garden to show people how to plant in interesting ways,” Patrick Vulgamore said.

Vulgamore said the community has been a huge support, whether it be throwing on gardening gloves or donating plants.

“Then having such a big impact on social media and our website and to have people actually show up and put their money where their mouth is, is fantastic. I knew it was here which is why we started it. We just needed a little catalyst and I do believe this is it,” Vulgamore said.

They hope to reach their next goal of providing classes.

“One thing right now is to get this shaped up and to get a pretty hefty schedule of classes going so to have events where neighbors and people in the surrounding communities can come and attend,” Vulgamore said.
