We are one of the proud sponsors again this year for the 21st Annual Heartland blood screening analysis at the Fort-Steuben Mall. It is designed to be the “Largest heart risk appraisal under one roof." People of all ages will be there, but you have to be over the age of 18 to go through the lab screening.

Trinity Health System personnel will be on hand until 6 p.m. Thursday to discuss their services and provide screenings. This year’s event will include the community blood analysis which offers tests participants' blood for more than 30 screen tests. Some of those tests include hematology, chemistry, and thyroid profile.

Trinity’s director of community relations and development Keith Murdock says that heart disease should be diagnosed as early as possible and can reduce the chance of having a heart attack.

"For years women had a much lower incident of heart disease but they are pretty even with men right now. I think women need to take more advantage of these types of screenings but heart disease is still one of the leading killer in the Ohio Valley and, we need to take proper steps to combat that," says Murdock.

The blood screening costs $35 and HBA1c screening will also be offered for $15. This screening monitors the glucose control of diabetics over time. Reverend Sue Heseltine is a diabetic and has to get her blood done every three months. She has been coming to Heartland for six years and coming here makes it financially easier for her to get blood screening.

She says, “It’s a really great service for the community that it offers peoples an opportunity to get blood work done."
