JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – On Wednesday, two teenagers were involved in an awful bicycle accident along Wellesly Ave.
While one of the boys involved is now at home, the other boy is in the hospital in critical condition with a very long road to recovery.
The teens were on their way here to apply for a summer job program, but they never made it.
Lauren Turnball is part of the summer youth program.
“The fact that they were coming down to do something so good that is tragic and the summer youth program keeps the youth out of the streets and for that to happen it was a very sorry situation," Turnball said.
The critically injured teen, Taeauntae Ware, remains in a Pittsburgh Hospital, according to his father, Ivey Hampton.
"He's doing OK; he's alive, somewhat well,” Hampton said. “He has fractured bones, fractured skull and his shoulder blade is shattered basically."
While his son recovers, Hampton believes kids should do everything to be as safe as possible on the streets.
"I don't want to say don't watch the cars, but more or less you have to watch the concrete and the roads because that's what I believe caused this," he said.
