WHEELING, W.Va.--

The eighth annual Wheeling Heritage Trail Bicycle Tour is set for Sunday, May 25, at Wesbanco Arena Commons and tent area.

Organizers are expecting more than 300 riders from several states.

Funds from the event go toward maintaining and improving the Heritage Trail, as well as supporting the Brooke Pioneer Trail and assisting the newest trail group in Belmont County with their plans to create three new trailheads.

Doug Wayt, president of Ohio Valley Trail Partners, said there are plenty of events scheduled for any type of rider.

"We offer a 100k ride that travels the trails, and pumps up to Bethany College and back. We also offer a 25 and 30-mile ride along the trails, as well as a 1 to 10-mile ride for younger and older riders," said Wayt.

Wayt said all rides will have a police escort, and membership allows riders to enjoy a lunch at the Wheeling Heritage Port area with live entertainment and door prizes.

Wayt said the 100k leaves at 8 a.m., the30-mile leaves at 8:45 a.m. and the 1 to 10 mile ride begins at 9 a.m.
