BRIDGEPORT, Ohio – The name of man who has been charged with robbing Citizen’s bank at gunpoint Tuesday morning has been released.
James Richard Oberman, 31, whose last known address was in Yorkville, Ohio, has been charged with aggravated robbery and weapons under disability. He has a previous conviction of bank robbery in Jefferson County.
Oberman was not on the run long after a called came in at 9:48 a.m. that a man wearing sweatpants, a hooded sweatshirt and a ball cap held up the bank.
"The man came into the bank with a small handgun, pointed the handgun at her and told her to give him all of the money," Bridgeport Police Chief Andy Klotz said.
The employee gave the armed robber the cash, and he fled the bank on foot west through an alley.
"As the male fled the bank, he did throw the weapon," Klotz said. "We were able to take that weapon into evidence."
Police tracked Oberman down mere minutes later in the Boydsville area. The cash was also recovered at the scene.
Klotz says Bridgeport, Bellaire, and Martins Ferry Police, along with the sheriff's office and state highway patrol, teamed up for a successful, speedy conclusion to this case.
"All the response made everyone's job easier," Klotz said.
