STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Summer is right around the corner and so are the fun festivals that come along with the season. One of those, of course, is the Dean Martin Festival.
On Tuesday afternoon, the list of events for the festival was released with a special guest from Las Vegas headlining.
Elvis Presley Jr. -- the son of the king himself -- will be the special guest this year performing a tribute to his father on Friday night (June 13).
"We've had so many great big movie stars here and big parades. People from all over the world have attended. It's one of the greatest events in Steubenville. There is no doubt about it!" said festival scholarship chairman Rose Angelica. "Many times, people have contacted us to come because they love Dean Martin and they just want to see where he was born. It's wild. Regis Philbin was one of the first to call and say, 'I want to come to Steubenville.' "
Also planned is a karaoke contest, a Neil Diamond tribute singer, Pittsburgh's Rat Pack Show, Russ Loniello's "Tribute to Dean Martin," a meatball eating contests, along with and other concerts and auctions.
The money raised is going to local high school students who want to major in music or theater.
"But we couldn't do it without the people of Steubenville, Ohio, and we appreciate them and we are looking forward to seeing this this year," festival chairman JoJo Dialbert said.
Most of the action at the Dean Martin Festival is focused at the Spot Bar in downtown Steubenville where Martin grew up.
The event kicks off at 8 p.m. Thursday June 12 at the Spot Bar. It'll continue through Saturday, June 14 with some events taking place at Fort Steuben and the Grand Theater as well.
