Latest on ongoing animal neglect case

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio --

After complaints and concerns of mistreatment poured into the Belmont County Animal Center during the weekend, 11 horses, a donkey, and a dog were all taken from a Powhatan Point home.

Belmont County Humane Officer Mandae Lewis says the owners refused to give the animals the proper amount of hay and failed to seek veterinary care.

“We’re just trying to rehabilitate … assess what they need,’’ Lewis said. “We hope that we can win these in court and get them adopted and start a whole new life for them.’’ Lewis said.

That will have to wait, however.

None of the animals will be up for adoption any time soon because of the pending court case.

Anyone wishing to do donate, the animal shelter has an account at Porterfield’s Drive Thru Farm, you can visit BCarl.org., or call the shelter.
Officials say they’ve had a busy winter rescuing animals that have not been given proper care.
