WINTERSVILLE, Ohio – Indian Creek is ramping up its security before school starts this fall.
School officials in the district are focused on safety in case a shooting were to happen or anything that would put students in danger.
“As a parent, it's hard to let your kid go anywhere as it is, so this is just a little comfort for families,” said Georgia Pavlik, assistant principal at Indian Creek.
She was referring to Navigate, a private website used by school officials and first responders.
If any of the schools in the district have an intruder, officials can go to the website to find the school’s floor plan. That floor plan includes pictures of every room in all of the buildings in the district, making it easier for police to track down a bad guy.
"If we ever had someone come in that shouldn't be in the building, they will be able to locate them immediately without having to search the whole building," Pavlik said.
During a school lockdown, doors are locked, lights are turned off, and kids get under the desk.
All the while, police officials are looking at Navigate, trying to track down the intruder.
They also access the school’s security cameras.
