JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- After purchasing the Ohio Valley Towers Building, Jefferson County commissioners anticipated the building needing a little bit of elbow grease.
The major work commissioners want to get done is on the roof of the building, but they also say that they want to sure up issues with the doors and windows.
Commissioners called the work an investment in that goes a long way in getting tenants into the building. The project includes the roof, plus work done to the heating ventilation and air conditioning system, and on windows and doors of the building.
"When we purchased the building, we recognized there was going to be a lot of this type of stuff that hadn't been done in a while,” Jefferson County Commissioner Dave Maple said. “So we always had our eye on this knowing this was coming and just in the sequence of events it is time to get some of these projects moving.”
Despite the investments, commissioners are still glad they made the purchase.
“It's been a good purchase,” Maple said. “And it will turn into a real good purchase the more tenants we get in and we have seen a little bit of tenant growth and once the building continues to be put back in good shape it will be a good asset for the county. "
Commissioners see the building as a way to streamline many of the county agencies.
“At the end of the day, you'll have a lot of county departments or agencies that are used to doing business with each other that are going to be on the same floor or the next floor down,” Maple said. “So that will create some efficiency in their work.”
Those bids were received and referred to the engineer for the project.  Commissioners plan on voting on one of those bids in the coming weeks to move the project forward.
