Update: Two killed in Harrison County crash

Updated: Wednesday, July 9 2014, 12:47 PM EDT
HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio – A tragic truck accident in Harrison County around 7:30 Wednesday morning claimed the lives of two people and sent another man to a hospital.
The two-vehicle crash involved a pickup truck hauling a backhoe and an empty semi-truck. They collided along U.S. 250, right at State Route 646.
It's believed the two people in the pickup were dead when emergency crews arrived on scene. The driver of the empty semi-cab was transported to an area hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it does have an eyewitness account. It appears the semi-truck was making a left turn onto 646 – with turn signals on -- when the pickup came up from behind, trying to get by the semi. However both were thrust into the water as a result of the accident.
“The one unit was hauling an excavator, and it was on top of the pickup truck that was pulling it and they had to get it off of there over the top of the cab,” said trooper Ed Weigand of the OSHP.
While the eyewitness account is helpful, the investigation is ongoing. Also an aviation unit was called in to get aerial views of the crash site.
The names of those involved have not been released.
Crews remained on scene, working to pull the trucks out of embankment after noon.
Traffic began moving around 11:30 a.m.
