HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio - A coal truck overturned Monday morning along State Route 800 in Harrison County.
The truck hit a guardrail along 800 northbound around 7:30 a.m., narrowly missing a utility pole. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the accident is still under investigation but it appears speed may be a factor.
The good news is driver suffered only minor injuries and was outside of the truck when emergency crews arrived. The bad news was he lost his entire load on a road he travels several times a day.
"When we arrived on scene there were some passersby here," Freeport Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bill Pitts said. "They were with him (the truck driver) and he was alert and talking to us. He had some injuries to his forehead. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance."
The OSHP was on scene investigating and the Ohio Department of Transportation is handling some is the traffic they continue to clean up the mess.
It's unclear how much coal was lost but the company will be managing the cleanup.
