6th Annual Festival of Nations to be held Saturday in Weirton

Updated: Tuesday, March 11 2014, 12:45 PM EDT

HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. – The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center will play host to the sixth annual Festival of Nations at the Millsop Community Center on Saturday in downtown Weirton.
There are many activities to take part in according to J.K. Lutharas, the event’s chairman who has been involved since the beginning.
The event is free admission and all ages can attend.
“There are many people coming from all over,” Lutharas said. “You name it and the artists are coming from all over to entertain us. And not only entertain us, but show a unity in diversity.”
He said most folks look the same in business attire, but when you come to the Festival of Nations, you can express yourself in any way you want.
The sequence of performances will continue all day, along with different types of food and displays such as Native Americans setting up a teepee indoors. This year, after the national anthem and the mayor opens the program, there will be dances from Ukraine, China, India, Greece, Italy, Poland and representatives from Olgebay Institute who will be doing several different dances, along with bagpipes.
“There will also be some singers, including me,” Lutharas said. “I’ll be singing a Hindi song.”
The event begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. The doors will be open at 10:45 a.m.
“It’s a fun event,” he said. “It’s an event where you can enrich yourself with the diversity our community is made up of.”
