Police investigate into case of shots fire

Updated: Tuesday, February 4 2014, 08:09 AM EST

WHEELING, W.Va -- Officials with the Wheeling Police Department are investigating a shooting in the 1300 block of Eoff Street. Officials say they were called to the scene just before midnight after receiving a report of shots fired in the area of the Formosa apartments.  While in route, officers were advised that a suspected vehicle had fled the area and traveled towards east wheeling. When officers arrived on scene, they found shell casings from a handgun, where approximately 16 shots had been fired. Investigators say it appears the shooter was aiming for a van which was hit three times.  A near-by building was also struck. The van was parked across the street from the Cathedral of St. Joseph's.
Residents from an apartment building close by say they could hear the gunfire, but police say they have no witnesses. No one was injured and no arrests have been made.
