Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 04:34 PM EDT

WHEELING, W.Va.—

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a convicted felon wanted for a parole violation and now malicious assault.

According to Wheeling police, Shawn Devron Brookins, 28, beat two women at 716 Main St. early Friday morning, first with his fists, then a pool cue.

"Mr. Brookins started to beat his girlfriend about her face while she was holding her child in her arms. A relative attempted to intervene, in which time his girlfriend was able to flee the area," said Lt. Phil Redford.

Redford said that when police arrived, Brookins then ran up 7th Street and north on Market Street.

Brookins was convicted back in 2009 of voluntary manslaughter after killing a south Wheeling man in 2008. He spent three years in prison.

Brookins is about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds.

Anyone with information on Brookins' whereabouts is asked to call the NEWS9 Crimebusters tipline at 1-800-862-BUST.
