WELLSVILLE, Ohio --

Animals at the Wellsville Dog Pound have cozy new quarters after some renovations at the shelter.

The changes all took place over the last few months, and just less than $4,000 has gone into the upgrades.

"We hold up to six dogs in our facility. We are really a three-day holding facility, and then they are transported to county pound unless I can find a home for them before that time,” said Animal Control Officer Heidi Pecorelli.

But with the pound’s changes, those animals’ short stay there will now be even better. The dogs now have a new concrete floor, new kennels and new blocks dividing the kennels replacing the old, flimsy kennels.

“They were attached at one point in the back, but with the pushing of the dogs jumping on them, they gave in and it wasn’t safe,” Pecorelli said.

To help raise the money, Pecorelli and others created a group called the Wellsville Animal Advocacy Group, or WAAG.

Pecorelli said the group is planning another fundraiser next summer with hopes the money will go to a new storage facility and get better drainage at the site.
