Three killed in Columbiana County crash

GAVERS, Ohio - Three people were killed in a two-vehicle accident in Wayne Township in Columbiana County Sunday morning.

The accident happened at approximately 10:54 a.m. on state Route 518 near mile post 4 in Wayne Township.
Lt. J. M. Dragovich confirms for NEWS9 that a Jeep Grand Cherokee went left of center and struck a Chevy Equinox that had nine occupants inside, including the driver.

The drivers, 39-year-old James D. Nign and his wife, 27-year-old Meghann Nign of East Liverpool, were not wearing safety belts and were both killed.

11-year-old Addisyn Benzel of Minerva was a passenger in the rear cargo area of the vehicle and was ejected onto the road and killed.
The remaining occupants of the Equinox were transported to hospitals for various non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, identified as Rachel K. Lindesmith of Hanoverton and her 9-month-old  son Austin were transported to Salem Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lindesmith was wearing her safety belt and her son was secured in a rear-facing child safety seat.
