COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio – On March 18, a life was taken along the streets of Wellsville.
It was a shooting that left residents stunned, a crime scene stretched out for several blocks, a victim taken to a local hospital who would never return home.
More than a month later, no arrests have been made.
For investigators at the Wellsville Police Department, the murder of Taru Smith remains their top priority.
Officials have said they believe they know who did it. They're just waiting for state investigators to study the evidence, and give them the results.
Lt. Ed Wilson said the evidence gathered at the scene shows this killing wasn't an accident.
“We did learn that it was a possibility it was a little bit of a turf war,” Wilson said. “Someone trying to sell drugs in the zone and there was a beef, and it resulted in this guy being shot, Mr. Smith. "
Officials said this investigation has been revealing.
They said it's helped them learn more about the drug trafficking that is happening in and around Wellsville.
Investigators could always use more information. Remember you never know what could help them make an arrest. If you know anything that could help, contact police or our Crimebusters Tipline at 1-800-862-bust.
