WELLSVILLE, Ohio -- For Steven Roberts, the summer of 2002 is reserved for one painful memory.
The fatal shooting of his brother Craig Roberts, a crime that to this day hasn't been solved.
“(You have) all kinds of emotions -- you’re sad, it makes you angry -- but it gets to the point where it won't make any difference. It ain't gonna help me. Even if they don't do anything."
Craig was just 43 when he was shot twice while asleep in bed inside his Wellsville home.
Since that time there have been dozens of rumors about what could have happened and who could've been responsible.
We have attempted to touch base with investigators since November of last year but we were either denied an interview or never had our calls returned.
Steven says he gets the same response.
“They say this is an ongoing investigation so nobody is allowed to say anything,” Steven said.
Steven said he's done some digging of his own and he's got some theories.
“My brother was into a lot of things,” he said. “He got into a deal where he smacked a boy with a ball bat, and there's a lot there that I can't say on TV, but too, I think we got a lot of dirty players in this game and nobody wants to open that can of worms.”
Steven has one audio tape that would make a sceptic think twice about the case. The recording is of a woman confessing to the crime and listing intimate details.
Steven said that tape and conversations he had with his brother prior to his passing have him at a loss for words and confused about the lack of progress in the investigation.
“You can't prove a lot of things, but it sure is funny when they fit together isn't it?" he asked.
In 2007, Prosecutor Bob Herron said they had interviewed the woman several times but she kept changing her story. And he said charging her with making false statements would only damage the case.
“I don't think anything will ever be done,” Steven said. “Unless certain people die off and someone else takes a look at it."
