EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio --

One person is in custody after a report of shots fired in East Liverpool on Monday.

Joseph L. Covington, of Mesa, Ariz., was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and weapons under disability.

Police said they received several calls on Monday reporting shots fired at the intersection of Penn and Dewey streets.

According to a police report, witnesses saw Covington shooting at a vehicle that was headed north on Dewey. Witnesses said the person in the car was shooting back at Covington. The vehicle then pulled onto Penn at a high rate of speed, narrowly missing a vehicle headed easy.

The area was searched by East Liverpool and Liverpool Township police but the suspect was not found.

Police apprehended Covington and found a .38 Smith & Wesson hidden in his waistband. He was first charged with carrying a concealed weapon and taken to the East Liverpool Police Department for booking.

During a criminal history check, it was found that Covington had a felony that made him not possess a firearm. He was then charged with weapons under disability.
