Community days continue in Follansbee

Updated: Saturday, July 12 2014, 11:17 PM EDT

FOLLANSBEE, W.Va - For several weeks, preparations have been underway for the city of Follansbee’s community days celebrations and Saturday, residents from across the valley made their way to the city to take part in the celebrations.

The entertainment included food, but the most important part of the event to residents was how the event brings people together.

“It’s great, I’ve lived here in Follansbee for 63 years,” Charlie Banfi said.

Drums echoed throughout the town as the parade marched and family, friends, neighbors and business owners all came out to see what it had to offer.

“My daughter enjoys it and the fireworks are great,” Kristen Pronchik said. “We can sit at our house and see them. It’s really fun.”

While the entertainment is enjoyed by the residents, the festival makes the people of Follansbee think about the future of their town.

"Follansbee keeps on going forward,” Banfi said. “Mayor after mayor that we have in here, they keep on doing a good job of bringing businesses in this town. The police department’s great, there's no problems in Follansbee."

“It's a really safe community and you know it's very nice here and quiet," Pronchik said. “I think that people from Pittsburgh are starting to live here because they realize that it is a great place to live."
