Water main break leaves hundreds without water in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Ohio – A major water main break sent thousands of gallons of water rushing into a Bridgeport roadway on Monday morning.
Bridgeport Mayor John Callarik, who was on the scene most of the day, said he thinks aging pipes or heavy traffic caused the pipe to break.
“We have more traffic coming out through here from all these trucks and all the car traffic, that has something to do with it,” he said. “But still it's something that happened; we can't point our fingers at anybody. We just have to go in and fix it, and I can tell you this, we won't go home until it gets fixed.”
Nearby St. Anthony’s Church food pantry workers had to remove boxes in the water’s path. Peggy Heavner, a worker at the pantry, said she was just happy the water did not get into the food.
“We spent like 3 hours mopping up and cleaning things out that were messed up, but then we have to clean all the mud up after we get more water,” Heavner said.
A 48-hour boil order was put in in affect and the break had not been fixed as of 5 p.m.
