Updated: Monday, November 4 2013, 06:12 PM EST

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio

The St. Clairsville Police Department is investigating a break-in and an attempted break-in.

Police Chief Jeff Henry said about three weeks ago a man came to a woman's home on Woodrow Avenue and asked to come in,and she immediately told him to leave.

"On Sunday, the lady went to church, came back home around 3:00 and found that her home was broken into and her iPad and jewelry and money were taken," said Henry.

Henry said they still do not know who committed the crime, but the thief is described as a young white make, with a thin build.

Henry said it looked like someone also attempted to break into the home next door but didn't get inside.

He said the thief or thieves jimmied a lock on the women’s home and also attempted to at the neighbors’ house.

"We're hoping that if anybody in the area at the time between 11 and 3 in the afternoon and saw anything suspicious that would be around the intersection of South Butler Street and Woodrow Avenue—to give us a call at 740-695-0123," said Henry.
