Sinclair purchases Tennis Channel
Sinclair Broadcast Group, the parent company of this television station, continues to grow.
In addition to producing more than 2,200 hours of news per week, the company is expanding further into entertainment programming by purchasing Tennis Channel.
With the rights to the top 100 tennis tournaments in the world, Tennis Channel is the authority in the sport. It is the only 24-hour channel dedicated to tennis.
"Tennis Channel is a company on a mission. It's very exciting. We're really all about bringing the world's greatest tennis to the fans all the time," said Ken Solomon, Tennis Channel CEO.
With the new agreement, the Tennis Channel will go from reaching 30 million homes in the U.S. to 50 million.
"We've gotten to a certain point, and now Sinclair has the ability to really unlock that and make it available potentially to the entire United States," said Solomon.
"It's a mainstream sport. The production value is equivalent of ESPN. The announcers they use are world-class. Some of the all-time great tennis players are on their air," said Barry Faber, Sinclair Executive Vice President.
Sinclair and Tennis Channel will also continue working toward advancing the network's digital options, giving subscribers more choices in sports coverage.
Being part of a bigger group is going to create other potential for both promotion and perhaps improving their programming beyond the first class level that it is today," said Faber.
Sinclair Broadcast Group is the largest broadcasting company in the U.S.
