Police warn residents not to confront suspects if they see a crime in progress

Steubenville police are warning residents not to confront suspects if they see a crime in progress.

Steubenville police are warning residents not to confront suspects if they see a crime in progress.

As police investigate a car theft, authorities are warning against engaging with any suspect.

The alleged car thief reportedly pulled a knife on the Good Samaritan who tried to stop the suspect. Police say don’t alert the criminal to your presence, instead call police and conceal the fact you’re calling for help.

“See, observe, and report” are the steps police advise.

Take a picture, call police but do not call out to the suspect or alert them that you know what is going on.

Police say that gives the suspect time to escape, complicates an investigation, and puts citizens’ lives in danger.
