Vision screening technology donated to Ohio County schools

Students at Ohio County schools will now receive quicker vision screenings thanks to new equipment.

Lions Club International donated a pair of Plus Optix devices that will be used throughout the school system. The machines are portable and can screen a child's vision in 30 seconds from a few feet away. The school nurses have received training.

Members of the Wheeling Lions Club and Clarskburg Lions Club teamed up for the donation. The technology costs $7,000.

“The technology will screen our students at a much higher rate of speed so we can give our students a more accurate reading for vision,” said Leah Stout, special education director for Ohio County schools.

The school nurses are excited to begin using them in their yearly screenings.
